SISI BOLO: THE ANGELS HAVE ASCENDED WITH ONE OF THEIR OWN
(being a tribute by Gbenga Arojo, Anglican Church of the Ascension, Opebi, Ikeja, Lgos)
IN MEMORY OF LATE MRS. BEATRICE OTOADE BOLODEOKU
Humans are given to perceive our earthly existence between birth and death. What precedes life on earth and what succeeds it have remained eternal mysteries. Biology gives us an insight only into the physicalility of pre-birth but hardly anything about the spiritual antecedence of life. The mystery of death still remains beyond the kernel of true human understanding except as explained by our faiths in the existence of a hereafter where we can hope to re-engage with the departed after we also must have passed through translation to the other side of the terrestrial ball. In the interval, all we are left with is grief, perplexing grief for an acute loss, assuaged only by memories of times and seasons we were privileged to share.
For many of us, the demise of our sister and mother BEATRICE OTOADE BOLODEOKU was most unanticipated. The shock is taking its time leaving us. We actually were looking forward to celebrating her 80th birthday in about another year but alas the heavenly realms needed another angel for higher service and our Sisi Bolo has answered the call. Yes, Sisi Bolo was my pet name for her as a counterpoise to her life-long heartthrob and companion that everybody calls Baba Bolo. She was Sisi Bolo to me and Mama Bolo to others.
At the Anglican Church of the Acension, Opebi, Ikeja, Mrs. Bolodeoku was a prized member in whom we found exemplary leadership in service at different times: President of Ladies Christian Circle, Member of Parish Church Council, Coordinator of Welfare Committee, etc. We now grief that a life so accomplished, a personality so endearing, a spirit so accommodating and a hand so giving can cease so suddenly. A key in our melody is translated. We now have to struggle to regain the Ascension Family melody. Yes, we know. It is the way of life. It is the fate of every person born of a woman.
May the beautiful soul of our sister and mother Beatrice Otoade Bolodeoku find eternal repose in the bosom of the Lord.
