I remember family gatherings and many great conversations with uncle Barry. He also always had a good story to tell about him and Dad when they were younger. Barry was always smiling.
As a kid I was always in awe of Barry's height and his deep, rich voice which I will never forget. He always had a smile and gave you his full attention when you spoke with him. As a kid that was a pretty big deal! I was always struck by his gentleness, and I'll never forget the time years ago when Emmi and I brought our pet love bird 'Unchi' to the Christmas party at Dee's. Unchi was a very funny and entertaining bird but was not at all hand friendly. He'd perch on your head, but if you put your finger anywhere near her she'd bite and bite hard. It was time to head for home and we were coaxing the bird back into the cage, when Barry just walked over, very gently picked her up and stroked her feathers like they'd both been friends since birth! I really felt the peace in him as a force of nature at that time and Emmi and I were both deeply impressed. We will miss Barry dearly, but are so glad to know that his daughter and family were with him when he passed. In the end, we can't ask for more that. God bless you and keep you Barry!

One of my fond memories of Barry is sitting at the Chocolate Sparrow and watching him eat the biggest and gooiest dessert they had to offer. He had a big smile on his face. I sat there with my small raisin scone because of weight watching wishing for his dessert and was amazed how such a tall skinny as-a-rail guy could get away with the best desserts all the time. He had the biggest sweet tooth ever and was the sweetest person too.
