In memoriam of my beloved Brother In May 1965 Andre left for The Netherlands by boat. A number of young men, from Aruba and Curacao, were asked to work at various Dutch companies at that time. These young men were technically very well educated. Andre and a number of companions went to work in Utrecht. They joined the Shipyard and Machinefabriek De Liesbosch. After working at this company for a number of years, he decided to try his luck elsewhere. In addition to hard work, he also had time for a hobby. As is well known, baseball is in his blood. He’s been living this life for years. Year after year he won numerous championships in The Netherlands. His 2nd hobby was music. In Utrecht on the Oudegracht there was always a party on Saturday afternoon (in July and August). The steel band had made it so far that due to its formation, the Gemeente Utrecht organized the annual Carnival Parade (wishful thinking). Due to the growth, it is now celebrated annually in Rotterdam. I hope that this little stroll down memory lane paints a nice picture of my beloved Brother Andre’s time in The Netherlands.
