I have battled to write this. The hole Andisiwe has left in our lives feels too big to accept. As the reality of her passing sets in, I have been considering how/why exactly we were buddies. Her character was authentic and incredibly likeable. You met her and immediately felt like she could be that cousin who would defend you to the hilt. Maybe that does not make sense, or does not happen very often with other people, but that's because I cannot accurately put it in words :( So much love there.
I am sure everyone who knew Andisiwe has memories of how thoughtful and warm she was. The memory I want to share is a bit quirky and has made me smile AND cry at the same time. (How many people can do that to you?) Andisiwe did not like heights! i discovered this not because I was her bum chum ...but because during our class obstacle course out in the bush i struggled to help her cross this pole that was like 3 metres above a large pool of mud. Picture attached from the year 2000! It was really easy for me, but she simply refused to cross the pole no matter WHAT I SAID! Our friendship was literally sealed over some mud :) N.b. Someone somewhere has this awkward scene on video tape, in a time before smart phones!
This is SO hard.
My thoughts and prayers are with Andisiwe's family. A truly special soul...her memory will forever be in our hearts.
Much love, Patrick
