“Each soul will test death”. The passing away of Dr. Alioune Badiane came to as a rude shock. I have known Alioune for over 20 years. I was always impressed with his passion and commitment for his job and urban development. We worked with him when he was in charge of UMP Regional Office for Africa, where our NGO prepared and executed pilot projects. Our relationship continued when he moved to Nairobi. Alioune continued to ensure that we kept the contact and communication going. He made sure to invite me and colleagues to his residence whenever we were in Nairobi. We had a long discussion with him when he came to Abuja, Nigeria to condole the family of late Mariam Yunusa. As usual he brought out issues that would be relevant in the future urban development of Nigeria and Africa.
His departure has created a big vacuum, especially for an African with his extensive network of friends. I am consoled by the fact that Alioune made tangible contributions In laying the foundation for solving urban issues in Africa and in building the capacity of many colleagues to continue from where he stopped.
My condolences to Mama, the family, colleagues and friends. May the Almighty grant him Aljannah.
