Alioune was a key pillar to the Safer Cities movement. Even upon retirement, he continued with zeal and dedication to the safer cities cause, assuming the position of Technical Chair of the Africa Forum for Urban Safety (AFUS) and Technical Advisor of the Global Network on Safer Cities (GNSC). As a Senegal representative, He was a key actor in the adoption of the UN systemwide Guidelines on Safer Cities Cities and Human Settlements at the Habitat Assembly in May 2019. I am lucky to have shared his moments in a very special way as a colleague, mentor and friend, as he bravely walked the Safer Cities Programme through extremely turbulent and disturbing times. I will dearly miss him. I thank God for his life. To the family, I will continue promoting his cause, may his soul Rest In Peace:
