The world has lost a brilliant and powerful advocate for sustainable urbanization. Alioune dedicated 25 years of his life to UN-Habitat and continued to be a champion for inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. He has left us far too soon. I vividly recall our weekly meetings in 2016 when he was preparing for his retirement, handing over the baton of the Programme Division. I will always remember his wisdom and his unique way of blending professionalism and passion with great effect. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
