My memories of my mamu ie Mr . Ajit Thakurdas ,are so many and still so fresh till date in my mind...He was a great character and so humourous, great mimic, noticing very minute details in places ,and putting up great acts with such ease ..we used to visit Allahabad mostly in our summer vacations from Delhi and we used to look forward for these vacations along with my brother Dicky and it was fun spending time with my cousins at home... right from getting down at the Allahabad railway station and my mother used to insist we take a cycle rickshaw to the home ..so,the time she would ask the rickshaw puller, Stanley road chaloge,he would say ,ha.. chalunga,Kahan joyege Ajit Thakurdas ke yahan..and the ride used to start ...mamu was very popular in Allahabad even loved by his students, shop keeper and meat shop vendors etc...at home,it was fun and sister and brother getting down on catching there old friends and current situation..... Getting doodh jalebi from the market and other delicacies from the market..he had a great knowledge about sports ,be it cricket, boxing, athletics, swimming or any other sports..he would have complete knowledge about the timings and the sports personality...he could speak non stop on any subject,,he had a great knowledge and he could easily speak at will ...he was a great mimick and we used to name the person and he would mimick them....we were very privileged to be having him amongst us... lately,i had visited him in Bangalore and he was his usual self, and happy to share his knowledge and stories with us and also the younger generation of the family...Mamu's untimely demise has given us all a great jolt and also to the immediate family...we all pray for his soul to rest in peace...and give strength to the family members....Mr.Ajit Thakurdas will always be remembered and missed by me and also by the family members and his friends and the ever so loving people of Allahabad..

I met him through his daughter Rachna and instantly knew where she got her sharp humour from. There was never a dull moment with him.... The endless stories of Kolkata, the street food, Park street and the legendary Chhabi Biswas whom Uncle knew personally. In between all these there were some intelligent and witty remarks.... Which made me realise that there was a man of knowledge amidst us! Of all these, what I loved was the warmth I received from him. I will miss the messages from Rachna asking me to drop in as Uncle was looking for me. Or miss making the fish curry with mustard sauce that he loved. I am also poorer today in the loss of the man with pure selfless affection. Your memories will be with us Uncle.
