I met Aileen in Durham in 1984 when she and Adrian were my church homegroup leaders. As a student, I really appreciated the warm welcome of a normal family home. Aileen got me involved in Gateway Crafts, the fair trade shop in St Nicholas' church in Durham market place. I started as an occasional volunteer, but with Aileen's guidance rose to the dizzy heights of finance director! I learnt so much from Aileen about social justice, volunteering, campaigning and running small activist organisations. It was lovely to reconnect with Aileen and Adrian after their move to London, and Aileen will continue to be an inspiration for my involvement in community and voluntary work. She will be greatly missed but Aileen leaves an amazing legacy.
