I had known Vijay from his early days at Piramal. This must be at least 20 years. Vijay was the quiet person and at times when he spoke, he was extremely measured and I had to really try hard to hear his voice. But that belied his real financial and planning abilities. He was the backbone for Piramal and I could sense the trust that Mr Ajay Piramal had posed in Vijay in building Piramal's pharma business through a series of deft acquisitions. From investor relations to managing deals, Vijay did everything so meticulously. At a personal level, I have to say Vijay was a rare human being who had to be admired. His smiles, his concerns, his ability to listen more and talk less, are all the qualities of a true leader. My last coffee with Uday was at Kamala Mills just when he was setting up his own boutique firm. Even when he was not well, he was positive about the work. When i visited him in the hospital, he had a gentle smile. He did not say a word but I had a lot to take away from that visit. I can go on and on about Vijay.
The gentleman went too early and will be missed. But his profound values will always be remembered. Salutes to my friend in life and beyond. Om shanti.
