Reflections on a Friendship How blessed was I to have a friend Lifelong, until the very end, Who shared what he was going through, And understood my journey too. From early childhood when we met, Our common path it seemed was set. Our values seemed to coincide; We’d share the thoughts we held inside. Knowing Trevor helped me be More confident in being me, For we were so alike, we had No need to be another lad. We loved to hear Elijah played, And hear the preacher when he prayed. We both received the gospel call. First he, then I, gave all in all. Soon we were helping kids around To find the peace that we had found Being, through Jesus’ love made one In district meetings, camps and fun. U.W.A. for several years Helped us prepare for our careers. We grew in faith through the E.U., While learning for the work we’d do. That work began, but, not before We both found partners to adore. Trevor and Liz’s wedding day Was followed soon by mine with Kaye. Both couples spent time overseas, And seemed to parent kids with ease. But then returned to our home town Eventually to settle down. Our life vocations now evolved, With many challenges involved. But thanks to gifting from above We grew in wisdom and in love. Trevor excelled, with high accord, And Lifetime Achievement Award. But down the years, great friends we stayed, And regularly together prayed. Each week we sang in Churchlands Choir, Till just to listening he’d aspire. Sadly, no longer is he seen, But all are blessed where he has been. Ian Malcolm 5th October 2021
