Thomas Mateides

August 10, 1970 - March 7, 2020

Tommy passed away after a long and brave battle with Cancer. He left behind a heart-broken family that will miss his quirky sense of humour and his amazing personality. We hope to share your memories and messages with his young son in the years to come. We hope your messages will help him to see his father from his friend’s and his family’s perspective and to help him understand that the spirit lives on in those whose lives we touch as well as those we leave behind. Thank you.

We both shared our love of Prince and there was something about Tom that just made you want to be around him. Tom was always super cool, didn’t say very much, but instead gave you that ‘Tommy look’ that spoke volumes. Its hard to convey our loss, Tom was the youngest in our group…we were both turning 50 last year, something I had hoped we would have celebrated together but it wasn’t meant to be. I often think of Tom, Tony & I have his photo on our window in our kitchen, so we still say our good morning to him every day. Tony has so many stories of our Tom, but I wanted to share this story too…it still makes me smile when I think of it…not the most romantic gesture from my husband of 30+ years but just goes to show how young we were and how close we all were as friends. So instead of my future husband going with me to pick my engagement ring, it was me & Tommy. Two 18-year-olds scouring the shops in Hatton Garden trying to find me my engagement ring. I often think of that day now and what the shop assistants must have thought of us, two kids trying on rings and so obviously wasting their time, but truth be told Tom helped me pick my perfect engagement ring that day and within budget. I always remember this story as just me and Tom and more recently Efty reminded me that it was in fact the 3 of us that had gone to Hatton Garden that day but because Efty couldn’t find any parking it ended up being just me and Tom…I guess it was just meant to be and it is a memory I hold close to my heart always.XXXXX
