I met Steve many years ago when I became a member of BNI, it turned out we had a few things in common, we both played Bass Guitar, had a slightly odd sense of humour and didn't take things too seriously. He was the sort of bloke you would have been quite happy to spend time with over a pint talking Football, Business and Music. When I was in town and Steve was in the shop I would drop in for a chat, he always had something interesting to say or a funny story to tell, I will miss that. The world is a poorer place without Steve, he was one of life's good guys.

During the pandemic, I had the idea to create a book for my children's school, The Willesborough Schools. I wanted to record that unique time in our collective history, when schools were closed and children were introduced to 'home learning'. It was just an idea and I went to Steve, at KallKwik, and asked if he could help. My vision was to produce a kind of scrapbook, or yearbook, with pictures of children at home doing their baking and gardening and filling their time. Steve took the idea and ran with it: bringing both professional skill and expertise as well as his own enthusiasm and personal support for the project. He set up a system to collate all the material, was instrumental in the design and layouts and oversaw all the production. The end result was a world away from the initial kernel of an idea: a professionally produced hardcover book comprising over 350 colour pages with entries from over 600 children. It had a print run of 1,000 copies. A much-treasured record for all time. The book featured in the Kent Messenger and won a national award for 'Best Community Initiative During the Pandemic' which resulted in an invitation to Westminster to present a copy to MPs. My idea evolved into a whole community project and the end result, 'Lockdown Learning - The Willesborough Way' has an enduring legacy. Steve was instrumental in its creation and everyone at the Willesborough Schools; staff, students and their families alike will be forever proud of the book and grateful to Steve for his vital contributions to it: hours and hours of time and thought, his careful attention to detail and for elevating our vision from a school project to a professional, award-winning publication. Thank you Steve. We will be forever grateful.

So very sad to hear of this news. When I first started the charity, Steve was phenomenal in helping us get our marketing off the ground with appropriate literature, and making sure everything was 'just right'. And we have remained loyal ever since - because of his kind, considerate and thoughtful nature. Nothing was ever too much trouble. So sorry for his passing, and thoughts are with his family and friends.
