Sam Young

May 30, 1967 - June 19, 2025

Sam Young was a passionate, caring and talented nurse. At the time of her death she was the Interim Chief Nurse at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, near Oswestry. Sam had extensive senior level experience within primary, secondary and community health care in Scotland, England and the Military. She had served for more than 16 years with the Armed Forces, and was still serving as a Senior Officer in the British Army Reserve; where she was Infection Prevention and Control Lead for 202 (M) Multi-Role Medical Regiment. Starting her career in her native Scotland, she moved to Shropshire in November 2018. Sam worked for Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group, before taking up a role in Primary Care at Severn Fields Medical Practice in Shrewsbury. She then went on to work for Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust before taking up her last post at RJAH. Sam was held in extremely high regard thanks to her excellent clinical knowledge, her absolute dedication to patient care, but most notably the quality of her character. She was a kind, fun and compassionate person. She will be missed enormously.

I've been putting off writing this because there are no words to describe the loss that you are. I feel so honoured that I can call you not only a boss, but also a friend. From a professional point of view, you were, without a doubt, the greatest inspiration in my 25-year career. Your warmth, kindness, leadership, common sense, experience and knowledge knew no bounds. I just can't believe your not here, RJAH feels lost in your absence. You were the light to guided us, and now, everything seems dimmer. On a personal level our Andrew lessons will never quite seem the same, I will treasure those videos and pictures we sent each other. I will miss arriving to support you and the big hugs you'd give me. It was wonderful watching you enjoying learning a different side of riding. There are no words that do you justice, you were extraordinary, exceptional, unforgettable and irreplaceable and the world is a darker place without you in it. My thoughts are with your family at this terrible time.
