Rupert Ziziros

October 28, 1973 - September 15, 2022

Rupert was nothing if not complicated, and had largely withdrawn from socialising in the last years of his life. However, those who remember him tend to remember him fondly as a true character: a ferociously smart, ultimately very sweet man who (when he finally decided you were worth being friends with) would give you the shirt off his back. Years after his own heyday, a small generation of alternative twentysomethings loitering around the Bevois Valley area would call him Uncle Rupert, something he pretended to dislike (but not very hard). Mischievous to a fault, Rupert loved few things more than winding people up, which made for exasperating, but usually entertaining company. He was a fixture at every party - and every afterparty - and although he was too good a friend to outstay his welcome, he was always one of the very last to leave. I'm afraid he broke the habit of a lifetime and left this party too early, bless his heart.

Just seen this, I moved up north a few years back. Rupert always looked after us younger girls and guys, the after parties at his place were legendary, I don't think that my teenage years would have anywhere near as fun without a guilding force like him. I always felt safe when I walked in and he was at the bar! Without him I would not have gone on to look after those that came after me! I spent some of the best days of my youth recovering on his sofa.
