I spoke to Richie all the time - the fate of colleagues working on opposite coasts. He was always ready: ready to small talk, ready to wax on about random subjects that had recently come to his attention, or ready to focus and run through a million permutations on every angle we might take on our assets. But let's be honest: in person was when Richie was just his very best. It was in the moments when we were together when I would usually stumble on some new revelation about Richie's past or lifestyle and know, that in somehow opening the curtain on Richie's passions, I was about to be so entertained and sincerely delighted: whether talking about his hair styling past, or showing me some car rental app he was appalled I had never heard of before, or breaking down some sweet cooking he'd done for a party recently, Richie's eyes would open wide, his smile would grow, and his speech would speed up - joy would manifest. Whatever he was talking about always felt a little mischievous and I so appreciated that. I wish I had known him better on a personal level and spent more time in his company. And not so much on the phone. He will be missed.
