I am deeply saddened by the loss of my good friend, Richie. Richie was completely one-of-a-kind, which I recognized immediately when he started at Jamestown and spurring an instant connection. One of our first conversations at a happy hour, we got into a deep and lengthy conversation, feeling comfortable sharing intimate details of our lives over the course of an hour, and ending with us clinking our glasses together to “being kindred spirits.” Clearly, a very atypical introduction to a colleague at a work-sponsored function that stuck with me. Richie was so unbelievably friendly; the only co-worker that I sometimes hugged when seeing him in the office. He gave really great hugs that I will miss greatly, as well as his infectious smile, approachability, and always present charisma that never ceased to fill all those around him with joy.
Everyone who knew Richie knew that he was so genuine to his nature. Richie was extremely driven and took pride in his endeavors. I love that he brought his true self to the workplace and owned who he was, which was the life of the party—whether that party be an actual social gathering party, or a regular work day in the office “party”. He was overwhelmingly unique in the best way and did not hold back from speaking his mind. I always described him as being “real,” which to me, is the best quality a person can have and something I look for in my friendships.
I could say so much more, but I will end this note by expressing my gratitude for the way he looked out for me as a dependable and caring friend.
My heart goes out to his friends and family, especially his mom, whom he was enthusiastically proud of and of whom he had no shortage of nice things to say about. I will keep him in my thoughts forever.
