John Badia

September 15, 1982 - May 8, 2021

A humble and virtuous man sent to serve the people of Africa and walk in purpose. A man who imparted his knowledge. A loving husband to his wife and caring father to his children. A son, brother, uncle, friend, colleague, mentor and a Dr to many. We are thankful for his life and the impact he had on the lives of many who were fortunate enough to know him.

The first time I really got to know John was when my partner dragged me to a couple's getaway for Lineo's birthday. As an intovert I agonised over the trip especially when I heard that we were using the same car. Lineo strangely felt the same way but we hit it off 15 minutes into the trip. The following months, years was a beautiful journey of friendship. He nursed my dying mother with compassion. I remember how he one day spent an afternoon with her in the garden, a week before she passed on. He was a doctor like no other. In January he gave my daughter a part time job at the surgery. They had planned to partner as soon as she finished her Psychology degree. The last time I saw John he did something very special for my partner and I...this was the week before he sadly passed on. John was a friend, a counsellor and a doctor who served from his soul. I recall one time asking him when he would take a break...He said "Me Idia, when I get a phone call from a patient and have to turn it down I feel so bad because I know that person needs me". I want to believe with all my heart that John completed his race and his throne is waiting for him in heaven. Lala salama rafiki...until we meet again
