Ray's passing came to my attention while I was working at my spectrometer, trying to understand a natural product's structure from an INADEQUATE experiment, and it brought tears to my eyes. Students are always taught such experiments to demonstrate the power and beauty of NMR. It is highly unlikely that a modern drug has been designed and developed without using Ray's erudite work. Fortunately, his thoughts will live on in our spectrometers as pulse sequences and benefit humanity for generations to come. Heartfelt condolences to his dear ones.
