Malcolm has expressed perfectly how I feel, so all I will do is say a heartfelt 'hear hear' to everything he says. In my work, especially when writing, or explaining, or drawing a diagram, I am always conscious of the very high standards which Ray kept to personally and instilled in us all. As I work I can still hear him saying, very gently, 'is that so?' or 'do you really mean that?, or 'is that in quite the right place?' and realising that what I've done not is not up to standard and needs more work. It was a very proud day for me when I was able to present Ray with a copy of my "Understanding NMR Spectroscopy" which is dedicated to him. His influence runs through the whole text, and I am profoundly grateful for all I learnt from Ray.
