A brilliant colleague in every sense of the word. Chris was able to turn his mind to anything from the complexities of the REF to the machinations required to deliver a new nursery while keeping a sense of humour. He could also, casually, run and cycle enormous distances (the Eddington Number might have been invented for him) which made his sudden death all the more shocking. He will be hugely missed; all our sympathies are with his family for whom the loss will be incomparably higher.
