Deeply shocked and saddened to hear this news. I was lucky enough to have Chris as my PhD supervisor and I will always be grateful for his advice, mentorship and friendship (even if he still texted me every time Wales lost to England in the rugby!). His humour and compassion throughout the ups and downs of a PhD helped keep me sane and I admired him both as a scientist and as a person.
I will never forget his reaction when I told him I was applying for a job at Astex: “I’ve really sold you on the whole fragments thing then haven’t I?”. It really sums up his humility.
My deepest sympathies to his friends, colleagues and family, especially Katherine and Daniel. He will be missed by so many people in so many ways.
