Peter Lau

October 22, 1969 - September 15, 2022

An employee of Instinet for over 25 years, Peter most recently served as CTO for the last 12. Peter was much more than a colleague and friend. Peter was perhaps the nicest person anyone who had the fortune of knowing him will ever meet. A man who had time for everyone, Peter would willingly give up his time - or the shirt off his back - for friends and strangers alike. Peter made this world a much better place and he will forever be missed for his warmth, generosity, compassion, and sense of humor.

My most sincere condolences to Peter’s family, friends, and colleagues. It still seemed like a bad dream. It’s so hard to accept that Peter has passed away. But I am sure the memories of Peter will always be with us. I always feel honored that I have gotten the opportunity to meet Peter in Hong Kong soon after I joined instinet. He was such a smart, thoughtful, supportive, and approachable manager, mentor, and friend. I remember we were moving data center in Sydney. He told us that his job was to make sure that we were well fed. But at the end he rolled up his sleeves to help us racking equipment, swapping router line cards, and patching cables. He was so considerate. He made sure that we didn’t have any bad feeling by telling us that he had never done this work and wanted to try. Peter always shared funny stories and pictures. He was so kind and caring. He sent holiday wishes and reached out from time to time. Peter, will always miss you !!
