My deepest condolences go out to Peter's family, friends and colleagues. What else can I say about Peter? He was an amazing colleague. He was tireless, always getting on calls until well past midnight, never really letting the pressure of the job get to him. He was always upbeat and positive, no matter how much work there was to do. He was always able to get things done, but was always a pleasure to be around. He had great stories to tell (getting stuck in Japan after an earthquake is one that sticks in my mind) to go along with the wild collection of technology that he had in his office. I think everyone would agree that we couldn't have asked for a better CTO in Asia for the last 12 years. But more important than all that, Peter was a great friend to many of us. Even after the work calls that would last long into the night I would call him up to chat for a few minutes about our personal lives. Any time anybody would go to visit the Instinet office in Hong Kong Peter would be sure to roll out the red carpet and make them feel at home. At the office he would make sure you had everything you needed for work, but beyond that he would make sure that you never left hungry or thirsty, as evidenced by the amount of Ramen we ate and beer we drank together, and even the occasional snake soup and chicken feet. Anybody whose lives were touched by Peter would know what a kind, funny and generous person he was. Like many others I know I will miss him greatly.
