Nuel-Jr, our handsome boy. JK was our first son, the eldest sibling to two beautiful sisters. He had just counted his 10th birthday on the 14th of February when suddenly he was snatched from us. We fondly called him JK. Nuel was a very humble, calm, loving, caring and soft-spoken boy. He carried himself with so much self discipline and respect and shared the same towards others especially his younger sisters and everyone around him. JK had a passion for cars and enjoyed playing with them throughout. Knowing his love for cars, his parents always ensured he had an assortment of them including toy trucks, racing cars, caterpillars you and name them. His second best hobby was cycling and he spent a lot of time doing this. He was a child growing up enjoying all the childhood hobbies of every child. His favourite team was Arsenal and he always looked forward to when they would be playing. He also enjoyed playing football with his friends
On character, JK was very selfless, always very contented with what he had, very willing to share and treated everyone equally. He was very easy to please and would settle for very less. He complained very little and appreciated very much. He was beautiful from inside as from outside, full of compassion, love and kindness. He would share even the last bread he had and would always make sure everyone was ok. He loved having friends and enjoyed communal activities including school and cultural activities of our social groups where we always went together. He made very good friends at school and talked about them endlessly. His love for his friends was reciprocal and you could always see them hand in glove at school, even his teachers loved him, testimony of his good character. He was no trouble to anyone and always looking to make peace. He looked forward to going to school every day.
He valued family immensely and always asked after his cousins, aunties and uncles but above all very excited when there were family visits planned.
Nuel had the opportunity to visit Cameroon where his parents come from. During his time there, he enjoyed outdoors with his new friends which he made very easily, played on plain fields, natural vegetation and found activities like fetching water from nearby stream very fun. He would want to do this daily for his grandma. The memories he created in Cameroon remained indelible and made him always wanting to go back. He talked about them passionately- playing with his friends in the dust, wanting to share with those who did not have all the toys and things he had which testifies to his empathy and compassion. He loved company and would also visit our neighbours.
Even though Jk was born here in UK, he is so attached to his Nso Culture, following in his dad’s footsteps. He enjoyed attending all our cultural activities both the ‘Saamba and Banin convention, and started looking forward to the next one like every other Banin child just as one was finishing. This showed his ability to adapt and appreciate every life’s aspect he was lucky to know. I cannot over state how much JK was looking forward to the convention of the summer of this year, sadly he would be missed.
Nuel is missed by a host of family and friends at home and abroad, from within and without his community. His parents are devastated. His siblings are in a loss. The pain is immeasurable but we would forever keep his memory alive.
Fare thee well son. Till we meet again RIP
