It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of V Kala "Kala" Gowrisankar, a remarkable woman and a beloved figure in our community. Known affectionately as Kala, she was born on November 4, 1962, and her soul was gently ushered into eternity on April 12, 2025. A person of poise and dignity, Kala held a unique essence that never failed to inspire those around her. She personified elegance and selflessness, constantly leaving profound impacts on the lives she touched. Her life lessons revolved around the ethos of being humble and kind. These principles guided her at every step, and she passed them on to others with her unique grace. Many would remember Kala for her accomplishments that were testament to her intellect, passion and dedication. She was the first lady engineer in her family, breaking barriers and setting a precedent for those who would come after her. Her academic prowess was recognized when she became an Anna University gold medalist, a testament to her relentless work ethic and undying curiosity. She was also widely admired for her unwavering dedication to her commitments, further showcasing her strength of character. Kala's legacy is a beacon of kindness and generosity shining brightly on her family, friends, and even those who were strangers. Her compassion knew no boundaries, and she was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her untimely departure from this world makes one believe that divine beings are so eager to call back the best among us to their kingdom. Indeed, a warm human being who filled the world with love and benevolence, Kala, has left an indelible mark on all of our hearts. Her life was a testament to the saying that it's not the years in life, but the life in the years that matter. Kala Gowrisankar lived a life filled with purpose, love, and kindness and her spirit will continue to guide us in our journey.

Like many others, I am one of the fortunate people whose professional journey was initiated, guided, and shaped by Kala Madam. I miss her so much, and I still cannot bring myself to accept the reality that she is no longer with us. Kala Madam was my first manager who believed in me before I had proven anything in real world. At a time when I was just starting out, fresh out of college with no prior experience, unsure of my place and direction, she saw potential in me — and chose to give me an opportunity in Lucas-TVS. That decision shaped the entire trajectory of my career and, in many ways, the person I became professionally. Back in 1997, after completing my college education and my NIIT course, I had the opportunity to carry out my professional practice at LucasTVS as part of the NIIT program. I entered the professional world young and inexperienced, knowing so little. But she saw past my flaws, treated me with respect, and guided me with patience and gentleness I will never forget. Those early months shaped my mindset, my work ethic, and my confidence. The professional practice opportunity I received at Lucas TVS was simply a part of my NIIT course, and it was supposed to end after one year. When that period came to an end, Madam was kind enough to offer me the chance to continue at Lucas TVS as a trainee, at least temporarily, so I could gain more experience until I found something on my own. Per company policy, I did not possess the formal educational qualifications needed to join Lucas-TVS. Little did I know then that Madam was tirelessly advocating in the background to secure an exemption from senior management, so I could join Lucas TVS as a permanent employee. While I was quietly learning and growing under her guidance in the temporary role, she was advocating for me without ever mentioning it to me. Finally, the day came when she told me that I would be hired and guided me through the next steps. She went to the extraordinary extent of creating a new Grade in the system just to accommodate my hiring, and I became the first person to be employed under that Grade. I can hardly imagine the effort and persistence she must have put in to make this happen in a traditional organization like LucasTVS. I will forever remain indebted to Kala Madam for her belief in me and the doors she opened in my career. Every day under her leadership, I experienced innumerable moments that reflected her nurturing spirit and the deep care she extended to everyone who worked with her. As part of my role, I often missed lunch while working outside the factory. Whenever I go back to update the work status, Madam’s first question was always whether I had eaten, and she would insist I take a proper break—an everyday reminder of her care and thoughtfulness. Since the factory lunch break was over then, I needed a manager’s permission note to show in the security gate before exiting, as per the company policy. I would get the note signed by Madam, and by the time I reach the gate, she would call the security office and instruct them to let me out without any questions—though the signed note alone would have sufficed. She had no obligation to do this, and yet she did it every single time—a testament to her gentle, caring nature. That showed how deeply she cared for everyone. It was during those moments that I first learned the value of treating everyone equally. Her influence on my life and countless others cannot be expressed in words alone. She taught us values not through words, but by living them through her actions every day. The lessons I learned under her leadership have profoundly shaped my behavior to this day. No one can replace the place I have in my heart for Kala Madam, Truly missed, but never forgotten. For the remainder of my life, not one day goes without Thanking Kala Madam, She will always be in my thoughts.

I know madam from the date of joining the Lucas-TVS. I used to meet her daily both morning and evening regarding office related activities. Still I used to meet her in my dreams. Even after my retirement she used to convey Newyear and Deepavali wishes. May her soul rest in peace.

I am always very grateful that I had Kala mam as my boss. Kala mam & Chithra mam only interviewed me and selected as GET in Lucas TVS in Aug 1997. That was my life changing event in my life. Worked with her more than 25 years. She used to be like a mother to our dept. She has given me lot of guidance and support at every stage in my carrier life. Always wondered about mam. Her dedication in work, people handling, leadership, expressing thoughts in a right manner / at right place, preparing presentations, work pressure handling, controlling emotions, problem solving, analysing, planning, prioritising work, balancing both home and office etc etc etc. She has inspired me in many things. She has supported and helped me whenever I faced problems. She has trusted me, encouraged me and given many opportunities to do important projects. Her dedication and support during critical dept issues, floods & cyclones were very great to Lucas. The effort she took to build our own ERP LEAPS were tremendous. It was her dream project. Lucas TVS will never forget both LEAPS and Kala mam. We had lunch together many days. We used to talk freely about our personal things during lunch time. Really had great time with mam. She took care of her parents very well till the end. She has talked about her father’s drawing skill when I showed my son’s paintings. She had always been a great support in dept charity activities and women’s day celebrations. Ensured our safety everywhere. She has been a wonderful human being. Great soul. She was a great gift to Lucas TVS and IT Dept. She has touched everyone’s heart in the dept. If anyone wants a to ask God one thing in their life that should be getting opportunity to work under a boss like Kala mam. Missing her is always a painful feeling. No words to thank mam. Thank you so much mam. Love you, mam.

I have known Mrs. Kala Gowrisankar for almost 35 years. We were lunch companions throughout my career. Though we both had arguments and difference of opinion, VK and me had a very special bonding. She was like a pillar on which I could lean on for any matter - be it personal or official. We were both part of most of the major system implementations for Lucas TVS. When my boss left abruptly in 1993, it was VK who supported me to manage my systems. During the initial period between 1995 and 1999, I had the opportunity to implement systems for our greenfield sites like Pondy, Hosur and Rewari. That was a very good opportunity and experience for me along with VK. Myself and VK had a great opportunity to work with our Executive Director, Mr. K Seshadri which helped me to improve my analytics capabilities. LEAPS implementation was a great exposure to all business processes. VK and myself have spent long hours testing processes across various modules. She is a voracious reader and had the skills to comprehend any subject. One thing that I really admire about VK is that, during the meetings with Sr. Management, VK would be able to answer any questions raised by CMD on any IT topics. Details about all latest technologies would be at her fingertips . She had both knowledge and wisdom. We all might have the knowledge to do our work, but VK had the wisdom to handle any kind of situation. Not only official, but for many of my personal problems she had suggestions and solution. She used to suggest very good home remedies for minor ailments like fever, cough, cold etc. She was a great friend and mentor to me. It’s very sad that God took her so early. My prayers are there with her always. May her soul rest in peace.

Mrs. Kala Gowrisankar was not just a remarkable person,she was a towering soul, the light in every life she touched. Yesterday, I woke with moist eyes, realising it was her birthday and felt once again the ache of missing her. Last year, when illness kept her from taking my call, I was reminded of how fragile life is, but her presence,her guidance, her warmth, her unwavering care has always been larger than life. I have countless memories spanning 24 years,memories that make me realise how deep the connection was both personally and professionally. Even after I left Lucas in 2019, our connection never faded. Birthday wishes, personal messages on important milestones, words of encouragement,they never stopped. She always reminded me not to be idle and she celebrated every small success of mine. She was genuinely happy when I started my podcast journey, cheering me on . She was my go to person. I stayed at Lucas despite wider opportunities everywhere because of her,the wonderful boss who cared for us both professionally and personally, whose personal touch was rare, genuine and unforgettable. Her leadership was extraordinary. She was principled but tender, warm but formidable, approachable but unwavering. She stood firmly for the right cause and earned respect not by position, but by the integrity and empathy she embodied. Her doors were always open, her guidance always steady. When I faced persistent health issues, she personally took me to her family homeopathy doctor. When my mother was hospitalised, she visited her, checked in every day, and made us feel deeply cared for. These are just glimpses of the countless ways she made life easier, brighter and more secure for everyone around her. Beyond what most knew, she was a quiet philanthropist. She gave selflessly, never seeking recognition, impacting lives in ways most of the world never saw. Her kindness, empathy and generosity were woven into the fabric of her being,so natural, so effortless. Losing her feels like losing family. Her guidance, her encouragement, her warm smile, her gentle chiding to keep moving forward and the quiet strength that made everything seem possible are all deeply missed every single day. She was the light steady, warm, illuminating paths, inspiring hearts and leaving footprints that will never fade. Every memory, every lesson, every moment of care reminds me of the extraordinary woman she was. She was simplicity and strength, courage and humility, warmth and discipline,all wrapped into one extraordinary soul. I miss her more than words can convey.I am sure she will continue to bless us wherever she is. She was the light and the world is dimmer without her.

I have been blessed to have shared a personal bond for almost 20 years with Kala mam, a beautiful soul. She is a lioness who faced all the men at Lucas Tvs with Courage Boldness and Dignity. Whenever there was any critical situation, she would stand in front, shielding all of us and sending a strong message to people out there " Don't dare to disturb my staff". She was a true leader. She never hesitated to fight with HR to get permission for all our little little enjoyments like evening snacks, birthday celebrations, chrisma child game... Another friend Uma took the initiative to do charity by collecting monthly fund within the department and mam supported all these. Under Kala mam's guidance , we used to send flood relief items to various parts of Tamilnadu and Kerala.She will be there with us throught the day till the time the items are loaded in the van.All these activities were unique to the IT department at Lucas Tvs. Without her support these would not have been possible. The way she participates in the chrisma child games, department outings to any resort was really adorable. She is always approachable and her cabin doors are always open. Whenever any senior person( not by position but by age also) enters her cabin, she will get up , offer them a seat and then sit. When I told her that i was finding it difficult to come to the office with my 8 month old daughter at home, she spoke to HR and made them open a creche just for one child. When i had to resign due to my husband's transfer, she introduced the Remote Working facility 20 years back. She was always there for us. She always carried a positive energy around her. Unable to control my tears when i pen down these moments. Missing you mam....

Kala Ma’am was a great human being who always welcomed everyone with a warm smile, no matter the situation. She was a true role model for many of us who worked at Lucas TVS. Beyond official discussions, she cared deeply for her team members — offering guidance, support, and mental strength during tough times. I would like to share one personal incident that truly reflects her kindness. When my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer during my time at Lucas, I informed Kala Ma’am. She was shocked and silent for a moment, as if it had happened to one of her own family members. This showed how deeply she cared for the people in her team. She guided me through the treatment process, sharing her own experience when her father-in-law had faced a similar situation. She even went a step further — personally calling the doctor who treated her father-in-law and arranging an appointment for my father. Her guidance and emotional support gave me the strength to face that difficult time, and I will always remain grateful to her for that. Many of us stayed with Lucas TVS for years because of Kala Ma’am’s presence — her affection, care, and positive energy bound the team together. But after she moved out of the IT Department, several of us, including myself, eventually left. She spoke to me many times, asking me to reconsider my resignation, but due to certain reasons, I couldn’t withdraw it. I’ve always felt sorry for that decision, and even now, I want to say sorry again to Ma’am for not being able to stay. Today, I’m working as a Manager in an IT company, and I continue to take Kala Ma’am as my role model — especially in how to treat people and lead with empathy and respect. We truly miss her presence, but I believe she continues to bless and guide all of us from heaven, just as she did when she was with us.

In Loving Memory of Kala Ji Kala Ji, left us for her heavenly abode in March 2025, leaving behind so many cherished memories and deep affection in the hearts of all who knew her. She was the beloved mother of our daughter-in-law, Shalini, her only child, and a woman of remarkable strength, grace, and great dedication. Our first meeting was in Pune in 2018, when Kala Ji and Gowrisankar Ji visited us at our home to introduce themselves as Shalini’s parents. We were immediately struck by her simplicity, quiet dignity, and gentle speech. It was then that we came to know that she held a Senior Position in TVS Chennai, a true reflection of her commitment and excellence at work. Over the last three years, through phone calls and video conversations and also our meeting in Bangalore, and family get-together in Chikmagalur, we really started to admire her even more. Whether in her professional achievements or in her personal interactions, she demonstrated poise, grace and warmth. Her untimely passing away is a deep loss to all of us. I often think of the friendship we could have shared as sisters, standing by our children, celebrating their joys, and supporting one another through life’s events . When I think of Aunty, my mind goes back to my first visit to your home and my initial impression of her as a strict parent. It didn't take long for that impression to be completely transformed, as I discovered her true nature—one of kindness, friendliness and understanding. Although I've had the privilege of knowing her for almost two decades, my conversations with her over the years were relatively few as I was away from the city for most of that time. I see her finest masterpiece in the wonderful person she raised, whom I am so grateful to call as my closest of friends. Wishing Aunty to be Happy, Peaceful and Comfortable in her new place. During 4 years(1980-84) interaction with Kala at CEG(EEE branch),I knew her as ‘honest,humble and very reliable person’.Though she had no issues with most of the people in the class,she had few close friends with whom she was comfortable.Apart from Mary,Devi and few more in the class,I was one with whom Kala would confide things.Being ‘sincere and studious’ in the class,I used to borrow ‘study materials’ from her and she was never reluctant to share the informations.When I was Class Representative (for few semesters),Kala would either support or advise me for my decisions/actions while others would at times vehemently oppose me (without any reason). Our friendships went beyond the College days and our relationship continued on with Family level interactions.Though I had lost contact with many of our classmates,I used to exchange Greetings with Kala and we met occasionally at Family & College functions.Every time we met,I found her to be the same old compassionate Kala. After few years gap, when I called her during October last year to know about her participation in our Batch’s 40th year Celebrations,I was saddened to know about her ailment.When I visited her house later in December,inspite of her discomfort she was calm as usual and recalled few old memories of our college days.(I didn’t know at that time,that would be our last meeting) Since that visit I was praying Almighty to heal her at the earliest.But I was shocked when I received message on that fateful day(12th April) from Shalini about her ‘passing away’Just not me,many of our friends expressed their deep sorrow on her untimely demise. Even though Kala is no more with us,those who know her will ‘cherish her memories’ always. May the Almighty ‘rest her soul in peace’.

Kala was one such person. I first met her when I joined Lucas TVS — she was already a senior leader, heading IT, while I was just beginning my journey as a Management Accountant. Despite the difference in experience and stature, she always treated me as a friend. She was approachable, warm, and had that rare gift — you could speak to her about anything, even difficult things, and she would listen with empathy and respond with maturity. Kala was a person of unshakable ethics — always doing what was right, even when it wasn’t easy. She lived by Dharma in the truest sense — loyal to people who trusted her, and steadfast in her belief that integrity was not situational but absolute. Her professionalism, calm demeanor, and unwavering principles made her someone we all deeply admired. But behind that composed, dignified persona was also a delightful spark of mischief! I still remember one unforgettable incident from those Lucas TVS days. I was known for my pranks and light-hearted antics around the office — until one day, the tables turned. Her team planned a prank on me, and I, being cautious, cross-checked the situation with Kala. With her usual poise and straight face, she played along so well that I was completely fooled! When I discovered she was part of it, she just smiled — that mischievous, knowing smile — and that moment still makes me laugh whenever I think of it. That was Kala — graceful, composed, yet with a twinkle of fun when you least expected it. Even later, when she became my client, nothing about her changed. She continued to be forthright, transparent, and honest in her feedback — never sugarcoating, but always with the intent to help us all do better. Her professionalism came from a place of deep sincerity and care for others. To me, Kala was a Karma Yogi — she lived her life doing what was right, without ever seeking credit or recognition. She touched many lives quietly, meaningfully, and with unwavering integrity. Today, as I remember her, I can only smile through the tears. People like Kala don’t really leave us — they live on through the values they stood for, the goodness they spread, and the memories they leave behind. *May her soul continue to guide and inspire all of us who were fortunate to know her.*

I felt you balanced all dimensions of a demanding life—from your work and family to caring for elderly parents and daily chores—with the utmost success, dignity and grace. Deep Compassion: Your kindness was at the very core of who you are. I noticed you held a deep compassion for those less privileged, often acting quietly to provide support without any need for acknowledgment. Again, never mentioning it to anyone. I only came to know some of the many acts of kindness through Shalini. Selfless Joy: On a personal level, you watched out for me like a mother. I could always sense your deep, genuine happiness whenever I had something nice to share. You always found happiness in other people's happiness, a rare quality that could only come from a profound sense of contentment. Boundless Positivity: In this world where it is so common and a regular .acquaintance to hear negativity, you avoided this at all times. I can truly say I never heard you utter a single negative or unkind word about anyone. Your passing has grounded me to some life’s core realities. It is a reminder that life is fragile and uncertain. I aim to focus on the things that truly matter (slowly but surely): to pursue a life filled with purpose, and to be there for loved ones when it matters most, always giving my best foot forward. It has also reminded me that the illusionary goals of money, career, and success etc. are short-lived. In the last stages of life, they have limited to no recall value. To me Amma has always been a dynamic woman who knew herself and her priorities very well. Throughout me growing up, including the last 8 months of her life when she was recovering from ailment, a conversation with Amma only gave me calm, confidence and strength. While she is currently not in the form we know her, I truly feel her presence, love and blessings guiding me day to day giving me the same calm, confidence and strength. In honour of her birthday, I want to share few of the many fond memories I cherish with Amma. 1. I truly believe I got my love for travel from Amma. Growing up, my parents always looked to give me good travel experiences during school and college holidays. The holidays were always for a week or so, and were always very immersive experiences. Thanks to Amma, along with visiting places of interest, our holidays always involved visiting markets and shops selling local crafts, trying out local veg. food from the region, a little chat with the local people. Always an open mind to learn something good from our experience. While Amma may not entirely agree to her love for travelling I always sensed a child like excitement in her when we were on trips. Be it travel to our native place a couple of hundred kms outside Chennai or to unseen lands thousands of miles away Amma was all for truly experiencing the place in the best possible way. 2. Amma has always been very generous with her time, advice, affection for not just me but for also my friends who I grew up with during my school and college days. From planning day outs with my friends to planetarium and amusement parks while in school, to hosting a dozen of my college friends at home during Diwalis being their home away from home when they couldn’t travel back home for festivities Amma always cherished fun, frolic and the good moments she could create. 3. Extremely dedicated and sincere to her personal and professional priorities. I have never seen Amma taking a short cut, but always doing the right thing in the right manner. Along with all the personal and professional commitments all through my years of growing up she only made me choose activities that helped me develop even if that meant lot more extra work for her in late evenings and never a short cut to make things easier for her. E.g. Guiding me in Paper presentations after her work day, cheering me to participate in dance and music competitions through my school days always being enthusiastic about choosing the right outfits and being there for all of my performances along with Appa. And very importantly being a strong supporter of me choosing who I wanted to marry and experience life with, even if it wasn’t the most traditional of choices and never ever suggesting or insisting otherwise. 4. We all come across people some who we are fond of and some that we are not so fond of, as for Amma I have always seen her maintain a cordial relationship with all and never seen her gossip about people or speak disrespectfully of any individual. I found this as a simple way to maintain one’s positivity and stay away from bitterness. 5. I learn from Amma everyday continuing to this day, both consciously and subconsciously. Amidst it all, one learning that she explicitly shared when I was in college,which will stay with me always is - To only pursue activities that make your heart happy. Never the other way around even if it means it brings happiness to your closest ones. In essence to always stay true to yourself :) Look to cherish her memories also through the stories and experiences you will all share. - Shalini

I consider myself blessed to have had Kala as my life partner. She has always been a support to me in all my endeavours. She had been a more humble person for what she had accomplished in her personal and professional life. Even many of acquaintances don’t know that she was a CEG Gold Medalist. Amongst many things I learnt from her, I cherish her extraordinary dedication she had towards her parents. Her meticulous planning and forethought to this day helps me manage my daily chores.
