In Memoriam of Teodoro “Ted” Santos Jr.
Ted unexpectedly departed on May 20, 2023, at the residential building in Sutton Place that he proudly called both home and vocation. He was born on February 22, 1964, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City, surrounded by a loving family and a large extended family.
In his twenties, he entered his first marriage, which later ended in divorce. He went on to marry into the Serrano family. Ted lived a life marked by charity, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his work. He was a caring friend, a proud father, and a devoted provider to his wife of 21 years and his two children.
In the early 1980s, Ted began working as a porter at a luxury co-op and steadily worked his way up to Resident Manager, becoming a proud member of the labor union along the way. His work ethic was second to none, and he took genuine joy in maintenance, repairs, and serving residents. He had a natural talent for interior design and renovations and a passion for home décor and holiday decorating. DIY projects brought him great happiness.
Serious in demeanor yet quick-witted, Ted had a unique sense of humor matched only by his generosity. He was as strong as he was gentle. Despite his humble beginnings, he was a sharp dresser who took pride in his appearance—from headwear to polished shoes. A true blue-collar professional, he appreciated a fine suit, quality shoes, luxury watches, and distinctive cologne. He believed in presenting himself well for every occasion.
Ted was known for his deep love of family, friends, and neighbors, and was equally cherished as a son by his in-laws.
He is survived by his eldest sister, Jane; his favorite cousin, Willie; his children, Priscila and Matt; and his grandnieces, Alex and Riley. He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. Santos, Sr.; his sister, Mimi; his brother, Tato; his nephew, Dave; and his niece, Tricia.
We will forever cherish the memories of Ted’s life and the lasting impact he had on all who crossed his path. He will be deeply missed, yet his memory will live on in our hearts. We are comforted in knowing he is with God in heaven.
Gone too soon.
