Everywhere Stephen went, laughter and generosity abounded. Some of his favorite activities were traveling, going to the beach, playing pranks and telling jokes, writing his daily devotional, “Today’s Good News,” and being goofy with his grandkids. More than anything, Stephen was known for his unwavering faith in Jesus and was a bright light in any room. If you knew him, your life was richer for it. Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Annette; daughters, Jill Harmon, Pamela (Bubbie) Augusta, and Julia (Mike) Kurschner; son, Joshua Harmon; step-daughters, Joanna (Dave) Naylor and Andrea (Michael) Scampini; foster daughter, Delta Lane; grandchildren, Stephen IV (Nicole), Lauren (Luke), Alex, Kate, Alexa, Jack, Liam, David, Noah, and Aidan; and great-grandchildren, Landry and Emma. Stephen will be laid to rest near his son, Stephen Harmon III, at the National Military Cemetery in Canton, GA. If you’d like to make a donation in memory of Stephen, please visit navigators.org.

One of his Today's Good News devotionals published in the Natchitoches Times- BAYOU PON PON — A SLICE OF HEAVEN My brother Tom, our friend Jerry Fowler, and I used to ride our bikes through the small town of Coushatta, singing a happy song, “Saturday Night on Bayou Pon-Pon.” Not a real town, Bayou Pon-Pon in South Louisiana is representative of many communities where, on Saturday night, families gathered at a seafood restaurant (really a bar-grill) to eat boiled shrimp, crab, oysters, crawfish, fried catfish, hush puppies, boiled corn, and potatoes, beer and Cokes. When the tables were cleared, a Cajun band began to play foot-stomping music, mostly of the two-step variety. Couples, grandparents, and children got up to dance. It was pure fun and it felt like a little slice of heaven. Such family affairs continue to this very day. What do we know about Heaven? Heaven is mentioned 622 times in the Bible and Scriptures about Heaven in 54 books of the Bible. Believers understand that Heaven is a place where God dwells, and where the Saints of God will worship him for eternity. John the Apostle wrote an entire book, Revelation, which, in chapters 21 and 22, attempts to describe the beauty – the majesty of heaven. Revelation 22:5-9 states, “There will be no more light. They (God‘s chosen) will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign forever and ever.” Jesus tells us we will have a dwelling place in John 14:2-4, “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I’m going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” Here is what we know from the Scriptures about Heaven: It’s unlimited by physical properties… We have new bodies… It’s a wonderful experience… A new environment… A new experience of God‘s presence… New emotions…No more death. Heaven is the free gift of God, not a slice of his glory, but all of it!
