Shirley Lenore Johnson fell asleep in death on August 31, 2025.
Shirley was born March 29, 1932 in Ohio, the youngest of 2 children to parents Homer and Bessie Rogers. Being raised as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Shirley made the truth her own, dedicating her life to Jehovah and getting baptized on June 21, 1942, at the age of 10. She married Richard Johnson on November 3, 1956.
Shirley also had a deep appreciation for her spiritual heritage. Her grandfather was introduced to the Watchtower and subscribed to it in the late 1880s, and this interest led to multiple generations getting to know Jehovah. At only 6 years old, she was arrested for preaching in Griffin, Georgia. This early determination to preach the Good News of God’s Kingdom stuck with her the rest of her life, and she began pioneering with her husband in 1986, spending the last 39 years of her life in the Pioneer Service.
She loved to talk about her experiences in the truth with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as her spiritual family and close friends. These stories left an indelible mark on all, especially those who went on to serve in full-time service.
Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Leslie Rogers, and her husband of 67 years Richard L. Johnson, and is survived by her children Kathryn L. Johnson and Mark (Carol) Johnson, along with five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
