Ruth Laufer first set foot in Indonesia in 1963, carrying with her a vision that would blossom into a legacy. She came not for comfort or recognition, but to pour herself into the hearts of children and to help shape their faith in Jesus Christ. In 1971, she was joined by Anny Dyck, a faithful friend and partner in ministry. Together, Ruth and Anny became a remarkable team—developing Sunday School curriculum, ministering to children across the vast Indonesian archipelago, training countless teachers, and teaching in Bible schools. Their work laid the foundation for generations of children to come to know Christ personally.
But Ruth's calling didn’t stop there. In 1989, God gave her a new vision—one that led her to Hong Kong. There, she continued the ministry of curriculum development, this time expanding it into English and Mandarin. Through teacher training and partnerships, Ruth's influence reached into Malaysia, China, India, Vietnam, Ghana, and beyond. Her humble obedience echoed far and wide, touching lives on multiple continents.
After 15 fruitful years in Hong Kong, Ruth returned to her homeland of Germany. Yet, even in what some might consider the later chapters of life, Ruth’s fire for the Lord and her passion for the next generation burned just as brightly.
Back in Germany, she embraced a dream that had long lived in her heart: to write a Bible study curriculum specifically for pre-teens—an age often overlooked, but so crucial in shaping faith.
Ruth was not just a teacher or a curriculum writer. She was a spiritual mother, a mentor, a servant of Christ. Her life reminds us that true greatness is found in serving others and remaining faithful to God's call—wherever it may lead.
Though we grieve her passing, we celebrate a life fully lived for the glory of God. Ruth Laufer ran her race well. And today, we can almost hear the words of her Savior: "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Thank you, Ruth. Your legacy will continue to shine through every child who learned to love Jesus because of your obedience.
