Rigzin Drakpa gedeactivereerd

Rigzin loved the outdoors. He loved hiking and trekking, but he especially loved mountain biking, and was off biking most weekends. Rigzin also loved playing the guitar and would (if circumstances allowed) practice every single day. He was very serious about learning about his Tibetan roots, which is why he came to study at RYI. He was an active volunteer for Shenpen and took it seriously to help many poor individuals in their lives. Everyone remembers Rigzin’s warm smile, and the kindness that radiated from it. Through this, everyone who met Rigzin felt safe and comfortable in his presence. With the big heart that he had, he was always available as a helping hand for many people, and would often go out his way to be there for another, no questions asked. Most people remember at least one thing that Rigzin did for them. In Rigzin, we found a wonderful friend and deeply miss him! Since Rigzin was a passionate Shenpen volunteer (Shenpen is Chokyi Nyima’s social work programme), Shenpen and friends feel it would be nice to give everyone the chance to donate to Shenpen to honor and continue his compassionate actions. Rigzin, I hope you are doing well. I am quite happy to have met you, you really inspired me with your natural kindness and easygoing nature. This picture is from the 5-Day hike the wo of us did together. During that time, even though I hadnt spent a lot of time with you before, it still felt like we had known each other for a long time. I love this picture, because it reminds me of my favorite Losar - on the rooftop with all my favorite people. It was as sunny as Rigzin's whole being, and we had a little photoshoot. Rigzin was the glue that kept many people together, and his natural happiness was infectuous. I only actually spent a couple of months with him, but he became such an integral part of my and many peoples' life so quickly. (I also conratulated Rigzin to his birthday with this picture... in June. Sorry Rigzi!) You were one of a kind, I always have you in my heart, Rigzi. We shall meet again.

Hey Rigzin, I hope you are doing well at a better place. I know words cannot express the void you have left in this world, but I also know that the world is a better place because of your grace, humility and joy that you helped spread. It was an honour to have you as my friend, my batchmate since 2007 all the way to College, my teammate and prefect partner. I will always remember your smile, your enthusiasm and especially your clever comebacks to any jokes guys throw at you. From playing tag during lunch break, playing football, NCC to partying hard after exams at merge and Kaalravv, we have done it all buddy. Thank you for your memories and setting a perfect example of what a friend is. I know we will meet again brother.

Rigzy. You were such a special person and such an invaluable friend. Right now, my mind is flooded with little vignettes of the moments we shared together, but I will always remember our trekking expedition in Langtang - that's when we really became friends. The soles of our shoes had the same pattern and you told me you would always know where I was going and when I was walking ahead of you because of that. Matching soles, matching souls, we used to joke. I remember when we climbed on Kyanjin Ri in the middle of the freezing cold night and the sky was full of shooting stars. The sunrise was absolutely worth every minute of struggling uphill in the dark, and I don't know if we had made it to all the way up to the peak without your energy and enthusiasm. You lifted up everyone around you with your mere presence. Letting go is difficult, but I am so thankful that I got to know you. The impact of your kindness, generosity, acceptance, and good spirits will remain long after your passing.

I am very sad and heart-broken that Rigzin has passed on. I often chatted with Rigzin. When we were in the same class, it was nice to check in with each other before class. Just the evening before he passed away we talked about a project where he was helping some RYI students. And that is how he was – always kind, friendly, and helpful. What an immense loss for the world and all of us. He was a true jewel. Because of some circumstances I had to go to Austria, and he reminded me to not miss any classes. Always thinking of my benefit and thanking me for my work and encouraging me. I pray for Rigzin every day, and with his amazingly good heart, I am sure he will have a good rebirth. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends and to everyone who loved Rigzin. Tina

Dear friend, I hope and pray you are someplace better now. One thing I will never forget is our trip to India. Throughout busy trainstations and cold night buses you kept the spirits high. It was so precious to be recieved by India with you at my side. The most profound part of the journey was our stop in Varanasi. Retreating from the bustle and cacaphony of the city, we went to the Sarnath Deer Park and spent the day. You showed me how to do prostrations to one of the Buddha statues near the Thai monastery, and we even went to the local museum to look at Buddhist art from thousands of years back. I remember especially how excited you were to be able to see the inscriptions on the Ashokan pillars we had recently read about. Then finally we sat down to rest under a big tree near the ancient stupa, just meters away from the very spot where the Buddha first turned the wheel of the dharma. At that point my mind was still and I was filled with awe. I know you felt the same, and we sat in silence for some time.

Last January, Rigzin organized a visit to the Matatirtha Oldage home and Maitri and me joined him. At first, we followed a maps link that lead us to what turned out the be the completely wrong part of town. We didn't give up and managed to find the right spot on the outskirts of Kathmandu, the foothills of the Chandragiri mountains. It was very moving to be with these elderly women who had no other place to stay and they were so happy to see us. I believe it made Rigzin very happy to bring a smile to someone else - so this mission was accomplished :) Thank you Rigzin for making this possible!
