Perla Bayardo, 73, fell asleep in death on September 18, 2021. Perla was born on August 23, 1948, in McAllen, TX to Miguel and Viola Benitez. As the firstborn of five daughters, she was the first to wed and provide grandchildren. In 1974 she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, having learned the Truth from her sister Sandra. She continued serving Jehovah faithfully for the rest of her life, for a total of 47 years. She was proud to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses and did not hesitate to identify herself as one. She cherished above all serving Jehovah, raising her children, and desiring happiness for them. She loved traveling, cooking, and seeing a good movie with a bag of popcorn and a Diet Coke.
Perla worked in the McAllen and Edinburg school districts as a secretary, where her skills as a fast and accurate typist were highly valued. At one point, she also managed her father's movie theater, worked as a dorm mother at a college in Austin, and helped in the office of her son-in-law's business. Like her mother, Perla was an excellent cook. She was a hospitable sister in the congregation, always eager to make food for gatherings and for sick and needy ones.
Perla is survived by her beloved children, Gil Gonzalez and Michelle (Ralph) Wilson, and her sisters Sylvia (Javier) Muñoz, Lisa (Patrick) Ware, and Cynthia (Brad) Otto, who will miss her every day until they see her again. She is also survived by her beautiful grandchild, Morgan, who affectionately called her Nana. She is also survived by loving aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Viola Benitez, and her sister Sandra. Perla is now asleep in God’s memory until the resurrection when death will be no more (Rev. 21:4). Until that time, which is soon to come, she would want us to study the Bible, enjoy life, and help others to do so.
Perla died peacefully at her daughter's home surrounded by her family. She could echo the words of Paul: "I have fought the fine fight, I have run the race to the finish, I have observed the faith." (2 Tim 4:7)
