After a short illness, Neil Elliott has passed away, with his family by his side. Neil recently received his long service award for 45 years of dedication and was a permanent fixture at the Hatfield/Leavesden centre which he led for many years . Many of you will have fond memories of Neil—he was a larger-than-life character with a heart always in the right place. He was fiercely loyal to the teams he led and the customers he supported, always going the extra mile to help others. Whether responding to incidents, helping colleagues, or putting BT and his people first, he was deeply committed. He truly was a ‘Hatfield legend’—a testament to hard work, dedication, and of course, only to be rivalled by his beloved Arsenal. Neil will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Last week was 3 years ago to the day that I first met Neil when he convinced me to come and work at Hatfield on the C77 contract which was moving from Northampton. He was one of those people you just hit it off with straight away and Neil along with Natasha Young made the transition very easy. My fondest memories are when we were in previous building I baked most weeks then did a big bake to raise funds to buy tablets for the Care Home, by mid afternoon there were still cakes left so Neil, Fiona and I loaded up the trolley and made our way across to building 5 Neil was the trolley dolly and we sold the remainder of the cakes. Once established in building 5 I came up with the crazy idea of doing a large bake sale along with cooking 144 sausages in my Ninja to make breakfast rolls, Neil for a not overly large gentleman managed to eat 8 sausage rolls that day followed by cakes for as always a very generous donation. Over the 3 years of working for Neil he consumed multiple cakes biscuits and sausage rolls along with the infamous quiches i used to make and if i could send a food parcel to heaven i would be on it straight away. I miss that reassuring tap on the shoulder in the morning each day Neil was in the office. You were the glue that held this office together for your own team as the rest of the floor. RIP Neil you will always be fondly remembered.

Tough writing this one as each day I come into the office I am still looking at his chair wondering why he isn't sitting there to pop over for a chat. I first met Neil about 6 years ago when I joined Managed Service, he was and will always be known as the main man in Leavesden / Hatfield and would always ensure you felt welcome to the team. He was passionate about many things, but particularly Arsenal and his team and of course his family. I now have the daunting task of taking over the reigns as "site lead" and it has highlighted to me how much time and effort he put into his work, being an ear to everyone on the floor and chasing CBRE to do their job is not easy :D. A phrase that will always stay with me is "well, yes and no", he would some how manage to always pitch a good argument for both sides of the debate, no matter what the debate was. You will be missed Neil, by many people.

I was so sorry to hear the news re Neil. Neil was one of my team when I worked at BT. He was passionate about his team in Leavesden and Hatfield and really customer focused. Organising events and getting everyone involved I remember our first Diwali event, the ladies getting us dressed and showing us how to dance down to the cake baking events. His holidays always revolved around his love of football and the fact this was his quality time with his family meant so much to him. His loyalty to BT was immense and even though over 4 years since I left I have very fond memories My thoughts with his family and friends.

I had the pleasure of carrying out many audits over the years with Neil, first in Leavesden then in Hatfield. Neil was always ready with a wad of printed out documentation and a sticky bun for the auditor, and an interesting tale to tell. Neil clearly had a real passion for his work at BT and whether I arrived at the office at 7:30 in the morning or left at 18:30 in the evening, he was always still busy doing something. On one particular audit the only thing I could think to raise an opportunity for improvement on was his driving, it was a white knuckle ride to St Albans DC that left me asking whether I could walk back to Hatfield. Neil you will be missed by many.

I met Neil when I moved across to his team. First thing I noticed about Neil was his swearing! And before long I was swearing like a trouper too! In 2018 he asked me to organise the first Diwali Event which I did over that weekend. Luckily it went better than we all expected. I saw the other side to Neil, his passion to get everyone involved, the love of Indian culture and food. He always stayed in the background, happy for others to shine. The last time in Nov 2023 when he drove to pick up the food that my sister in law had cooked for the Diwali. I asked him not to drive too fast otherwise the food would end up in his boot! He drove carefully and my sister in law packed him off with more food, which he loved. Sitting with Neil as he drove from the Belfast office to the airport was an experience never to be forgotten! One memory which makes me smile still was when I pinned him against the wall in Hatfield one day as I couldn't find him as he was everywhere but at his desk! I saw Natasha and Ellen laughing and I left him with these words " I bet you've not been pinned down by a woman before"! I could see he was smiling too! But Neil you really did surprised me after your death. You passed away on the 3rd Feb which is the same day that I lost my mum so I will remember you each year. Natasha rang me last Thursday at 11.00am to tell me about this news and how you had made a list of 20 people to call after you left. I was stunned to know that I was on that list. Rest in peace Neil. You will be missed and it's an end of an era in Hatfield.

I started working with Neil around eight years ago. When we first met, I thought, "Who's the grumpy guy?" To be fair, he probably thought the same about me. That quickly changed as I got to know the person behind the prickly first impression. One of the things I admired about Neil is that he would never, ever, throw his team under a bus, he always defended them to the hilt. Praise in public, criticize in private. A valuable trait. Neil used to drive everywhere. I remember complaining about the drive from Glasgow up to Thurso for a couple of days' work and asking Neil what flight he was getting. Nope, he was driving. He left at midnight, got there in time for lunch, and in the evening, he still had time for a cider and a Jägermeister that night. Two days later, he did the same back down. 1400 miles driving over a few days was nothing to him; he was used to it with Arsenal away. Neil was hilarious at times, his dry wit and ability to say out loud exactly what you were thinking often had me in stitches. RIP Neil, a friend and a colleague.

I met Neil on one of my many trips for work from Belfast to Hatfield. On my very 1st trip he found out my family and I were all massive Arsenal fans…. From that moment I had a cup of tea and bacon sandwich sitting on my desk. From every other trip over I got spoilt. Neil was one of the kindest people always made time to catch up, was always around for a call and chat. It was a pleasure to work with someone so dedicated to the business he put everything into his team, he always knew they are the heart of everything we do… so was he! He put our customer’s front and centre always. I will really miss the updates of his long travels to away games no matter how far. You will be missed massively Neil.

I knew Neil since the early days of the N3 contract - way back in 2004/5 (how time flies....) So many memories of the early service review meetings with the customer and the subsequent nights out - typically in Leeds but we did even get as far north as Edinburgh once with the old guard. Most people with a pint or a glass of wine but Neil with his usual bottle of fruit cider and a neat Jägermeister chaser :-) Whether we worked closely together on a customer or project or not, Neil and I would always have a regular chat to put the world to rights whether it be work or football related - I will miss these conversations dearly. Neil had has own ways of doing things and many words can be used to describe him but as so many people have said already, 'kind' is the one that I would choose above all others. You will be greatly missed by so many but I am grateful for having known you.

Neil had the immense impact on us all. He was a pillar of support, especially during the challenging period of COVID. He was not only an amazing boss but also a wonderful person outside of work. Neil was always there for me through thick and thin, offering unwavering support and friendship. It's impossible to forget the countless events he organized, always ensuring that every member of our staff in Hatfield felt cared for. On a personal level, Neil and I shared many great conversations about the latest technologies, cars and of course his beloved Arsenal. It was truly a pleasure knowing him, and he will be deeply missed. Although Neil is no longer with us, the memories we created together will never fade. His kindness, dedication, and friendship will always be remembered. Rest in peace, Neil.

I first met Neil through work about nine years ago in Leavesden, and we instantly clicked. Whether it was our mutual love for Arsenal and food or our similar sense of humour, we became great friends. Neil's kindness and friendship were unconditional. He was always there for me, even helping me through some tough times in my personal life. For this, I am so incredibly grateful. Our friendship extended beyond just the two of us, my whole family was touched by Neil's kindness and generosity. My Dad often sought Neil's views on the Arsenal manager, team performance, and new signings. These conversations often turned into passionate discussions, frequently accompanied by some colourful language! Neil was a larger-than-life character, extremely loyal to the people he cared for, his family, his friends, his Hatfield team and his customers, his loss will be deeply felt by all of us who knew him. Whenever I think of Arsenal or see a good buffet, I’ll always think of Neil. His unwavering loyalty, kindness, humour, and sincere friendship are things I will forever cherish.

In our working lives we encounter many people, and if we are lucky we 'click' with some to form a friendship. The first time i met Neil it was apparent he had a real passion for doing the best for his people, the site and the business as he made it clear chewing someone's ear off. Fiercely defensive and loyal as he was, earned lots of people's respect and loyalty back in buckets, including from me. He always had time for everyone even though he was always busy. Many times we sat and chatted where he gave me sound advise and support which will stay with me forever. Neil truly was an amazing guy, a true gent, a friend, hilariously funny with his sense of wit and he had a heart of gold. He was someone i always looked forward to seeing and will miss him immeasurably

Neil was part of the furniture here at Hatfield and was always around if you needed help. He was a caring person, who went out of his way to make sure everyone was ok. Neil had his ways (which even now still makes me chuckle), but he was fiercely loyal to his team and always put our customers first. I loved our conversation on Football, which was fuelled by his passion for Arsenal, which will be a lasting memory for me, along with his empty chair in Hatfield when they were playing away. You will be missed.

I worked with Neil for over 20 years. In fact I joined him 2 weeks after he joined N3. From day 1, I knew that this was a man that I could look up to and trust. His leadership was incredible. From time to time, he'd call me into a small conference room and say "Geof, I have a development opportunity for you." Every time it was something that I would not choose to do in a million years but I asked "Is it really necessary and do I have to?" He'd always say "No, but I need you to do it." That was always enough for me. I firmly believe that our group based at Westside, then Leavesden and finally at Hatfield grew and remained stable largely because Neil was in charge. If he hadn't been at the helm, I believe we would have been disbanded years ago. Over the years and as I grew older, made up my mind that I would stay at BT and not retire as long as Neil was in charge. I told him this on a few occasions and he always said that it was not time to leave yet. But, as Neil moved from the front line, I knew it was time and I left in December '24. Neil has been the biggest single influence on me in my 50 years at BT, as manager, colleague and friend. You could always get around him. You just needed to put a slice of cake and a coffee on his desk. Never coconut though. He hated anything coconut! When things went wrong in the office as sometimes they must, you'd hear him shout "It's a shambles!" To Neil's sons (and family). I miss your Dad as I would miss a brother and best friend. I cannot imagine how you must feel. Know this though, I will think of Neil fondly, often and with great pride to have known and worked with him. I'll miss him until my end.

I met Neil while working in Hatfield for the last 5 or so years. He was always around doing something for someone somewhere on site. As I came to know Neil better, I saw what a generous and kind individual he was. This was particularly apparent when I was very unwell myself, Neil would always check in with me to see how I was getting on and generally kept an eye on me. This quiet kindness was typical Neil. Neil had a rye sense of humour and we often enjoyed a laugh whilst getting another cup of tea on the go. I will miss him greatly, a true stalwart of our BT Hatfield community. Neil was a remarkable presence in Hatfield. Known for his larger-than-life character, he consistently cut through any confusion and gave it a special type of clarity! Whether it was supporting a cause (mainly those involving cakes ...), rallying behind a project, or simply lending a hand, Neil was always there with an encouraging word and a supportive spirit. His calm approach was a breath of fresh air. Neil had a way of making our team feel at ease when we were added to the Hatfield fold a couple of years ago. His ability to stay chilled and composed in the face of challenges was truly inspiring, and it's one of the many qualities I will miss dearly - RIP Neil, we will all think of you often

I met Neil in 2010 when I moved into his N3 team. He worked so hard on the N3 contract and also there after being a senior manager at Leavesdon and Hatfield. He really did have a very kind heart and would support those who needed it. Neil loved a good Buffet and he would get the ladies to go to Tesco's for an event and shop for it. He insisted we always got sausage rolls, pork pies and Baguettes and made us laugh when we tried to change his mind. So many fond memories and he will be greatly missed and its just so sad he was taken early.

Neil - I always said to Natasha that you were sent to me by my Mum and Dad ( I know you would laugh) but it is true. You were like a second Dad to me and so many in Hatfield. You were fiercely loyal to your BT family, had the biggest, kindest heart and cared so much about everyone. I really am grateful that I had the privilege of knowing you. I felt that you were a virtual part of my family as you took such an interest in me and my kids and they felt they knew you too. There are so many amazing times we shared in Hatfield, our favourite being the Greenacres Care Home volunteering :-) You had the best humour and we shared many laughs. I am truly gutted that you have been taken so soon but I promise you that you will never be forgotten and will be forever in my heart and so many that you touched. You were one in a million our Hatfield Super Hero and Legend. Thank You for everything Neil - you will be so missed by us all. My thoughts are with your boys, your dear Mum, sister and all your family. Until we meet again ..... Fiona xxx

I remember being unwell for a while a couple of years back and Neil would send me a message every couple of days just to check out how I was doing, he was so kind and caring. He was passionate about supporting his people, to him they were like family. A keen sense of right and wrong, he was always prepared to go the extra mile for them. Sometimes, he could be an adversary if you were coming at something from a different angle, but he was always a friend, honest and true. I/we/everyone will miss him.

Where do I start1 I have so many memories of Neil, I joined the CSM team many moons ago around 2010 and my first memory of Neil was him and Macca arguing on a call !! I wondered what the heck I had got myself involved in ! Over time Neil and I became great friends always there no matter what time of day for a chat a laugh or a moan. We talked about the footy and his favourite subject food!!) He loved his job which he was very good at and loved the people he worked with! Neil was a no nonsense person and would speak his mind which I loved about him. I am really going to miss you Neil every time I think of N3 CO or HSCN and Hatfield you are at the forefront of my mind. This place is just not going to be the same without you. You will always live on in our hearts with one day a smile on our faces. A true legend. Will cheer on Arsenal for you. My Memories of Neil , there was no doubt he workerd really hard . But under that he was really kind on a personal level. I remember he reached out to a collegue and shared his connections with the music industry and love of music . I reconnected with him recently and shared a few emails. My thoughts are with his family and friends . I'm grateful I was able to share some time with him and he will be missed.

So many memories of Neil ... where to start .. . Having worked with Neil for 8 years I can honestly say I've never known anyone as hard working as him. He was 'always on' and 'always helping' - he used to say he was a machine. Never had a days sick in his 45 years and likely never used all his annual leave either! His infamous answer to most questions was always ' yes and no' ! All team meetings had to be arranged around Arsenal matches - Arsenal and Neil were a package. But such a love for his team and people he cared for which always shone through.
