It is with shock and sadness that we have to report the sudden death earlier this week, of Mark Maddox, a great supporter of the Association, a respected colleague and a good friend. It was only last month that Mark was elected as President of the Association and we will miss his enthusiasm, hard work and wise counsel.
Mark was a long serving Councillor on Runnymede Borough Council, having been first elected to represent New Haw in 2012. He was well known and popular within the community where he lived and helped many residents. In the Council he had been Chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee and a Director of Runnymede Borough Investment Company which was the company set up by the Council to manage the new Town Centre Developments in Addlestone and Egham. The latter enabled him to put his excellent business skills to use, skills acquired in his professional career as he worked his way up to Board level in several well-known companies.
Mark’s business skills were also of benefit to Runnymede and Weybridge Conservatives. As deputy Chair Finance and Membership, a position held for several years, he completely re-organised our finances when we relocated to Curzon House and helped set up the Investment Trust which manages the proceeds from the sale of our previous HQ, providing income to our fighting funds. As Chairman of the Association, he smoothly organised the 2019 election including all the changes resulting from new leadership in the Party
Everybody who knew Mark, and there are many will miss his cheery demeanour and good common sense. Our thoughts go out to his family. We will certainly miss him.
