6/19 Juneteenth. Hana did her best to educate the people around her; family, friends, coworkers, etc about the importance of Juneteenth for many years. Hana spent time celebrating Juneteenth with like minded people. Hana worked so hard to educate about systemic racism and despite freedom from slavery there is still institutional ways marginalized people are not free.
My favorite video that Hana has on her iPhone from Juneteenth celebrations is a video of brown skinned girls dancing on stage to the song brown skin girl by Beyoncé. I think about how excited Hana would be to hear there’s a new Beyoncé album coming out and I wish Hana was still here to be excited about it. I love you Hana. I miss the beautiful advocate you are. I wish you were still here with me.
