Dear Beloved Family & Friends, It is with profound grief but thanksgiving for his life, that we announce that in the late afternoon of Friday, 2nd August 2024, our Beloved Geoffrey Inoti passed away at Coptic Hospital, Ngong Road. The Inoti family firmly stood with & supported their Patriarch as he battled illness but his journey with us on this earth has come to an end leaving behind his wife Virginia Inoti, his children, Kathleen Nkatha and Richard Kaburu, Peter Gitobu and Carol Njeri, Eric Munene, his grandchildren and other family. He was a great story teller and friend of all. He understood children well and they were drawn to him. Geoffery Inoti was a great engineer, mathematician, farmer, dad and grandad. Meetings will be held at Magiwa Estate, House No. 13 A, from 4pm - 6pm, starting from Tuesday, 6th August 2024 to Thursday, 8th August 2024. Funeral date will be communicated. Assistance may be sent to our treasurer, Richard Kaburu, 0722470297.

Kathure Gikunda Inoti Tribute to Uncle Geoffrey My earliest memory of Uncle Geoffrey is from when I was in class 2, excitedly chattering about our trip from Meru to Nairobi to visit him in the big city. True to his nature, Uncle was a great storyteller, but he always let us go first. My siblings and I would eagerly recount stories from our dad and grandma with the delightful chaos of childhood, while Uncle nodded and chuckled. When it was his turn, he spoke with serene grace, weaving tales full of wisdom and vivid imagery. One story that sticks with me is about Gacururiga, a beautiful and industrious girl who rejected all suitors despite their best efforts to woo her. A villain-turned-hero, the laziest and least attractive man, devised a plan to marry her. While Gacururiga was weeding, he destroyed her maize plants, provoking her to fight him fiercely. Unfortunately, in her society it was taboo for a woman to physically confront a man. To preserve her honor, she had to marry him. This story taught me to manage my anger and handle difficult situations gracefully, a lesson I've carried through life. Uncle was a remarkable anthropologist deeply fascinated by the Maasai culture. I remember him often laying his hand over our tiny heads to bless us, a custom typical of the Maasai. Having lived among them, he was struck by the similarities between the Maasai and Meru communities, which led him to study them extensively. He used oral stories to reconstruct the connections and relations between these cultures. He left behind a manuscript that we hope will be completed and published in his honor. I always felt at home with Uncle. Born after our matriarch Cio Baithegea, he made me cherish my identity and heritage. He would always address me with, “Gwee mama…,” which made me proud of the Cio Baithegea title. I carry this title with pride, alongside other girls born after our esteemed Matriarch, Tabitha Muthoni. Uncle was deeply concerned with every aspect of people’s lives. During my last visit, he inquired about my boyfriend. Although I discussed the topic timidly, he took it seriously and offered stern yet loving advice. I am sure, he was proud when I got married this year. He always told me, “Gwee mama, umiite nja ya M’Inoti, gurwa na njira injega…” Uncle Geoffrey was a great inspiration. My dad, his younger brother Gikunda, often narrated how Uncle Geoffrey was the first member of the Inoti family and Nkiriri village to venture abroad. Through Dad’s stories, I first learned about Yugoslavia and Uncle Geoffrey's travels. Since then, I’ve dreamed of studying abroad, a dream that was fulfilled this year. For the blessing that he was, Uncle’s memories will always be a big part of us. His lessons and advice will always be cherished and upheld. We love you uncle, even unto eternity.
