The late Senator the Honourable Franklin Khan was a Petroleum Geologist by profession, having spent twenty years in the energy sector, both locally and abroad, in a wide range of positions, at the technical and managerial levels. He held a BSc Degree in Geology and Geography (1980) from The University of the West Indies (Jamaica) and an MBA (2007) from the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business, The University of the West Indies (Trinidad). Professionally, he served as President of the Geological Society of Trinidad and Tobago on two occasions. He held the positions of Director of the Water and Sewage Authority (WASA) from 1986 to 1990 and of Chairman of the National Petroleum Marketing Co. Ltd. (NPMC) from 2001 to 2002. The late Senator the Honourable Franklin Khan was Minister of Works and Transport from 2002 to 2005 and was an elected Member of Parliament for Ortoire/Mayaro from 2002 to 2007. In 2015, he was appointed Minister of Rural Development and Local Government. In 2016, he was appointed Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, a portfolio which he was subsequently reassigned for a second term in 2020 and which he held until the time of his passing.
