David Caldwell Jr. affectionately known as “Big Well”, 79 years old passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Memorial Hermann Hospice in Houston Texas with his devoted wife, Janie Caldwell at his bedside.
David was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Ida and David Caldwell Sr. David was an Army veteran and served from 1955-1958. David moved from Winston-Salem to New Jersey in the 1960’s, where he later married Janie Martin in 1985. David was employed by American Cyanamid for 30+ years retiring in 1996, moving to Houston Texas in 1997.
David Caldwell is preceded in death by his parents Ida and David Caldwell Sr. of North Carolina., sisters - Brenda Johnson and Geraldine Shepherd of North Carolina, Grace Smith and Ruth Caldwell of Michigan, and brother Eulas Smarr of California.
David is survived by his spouse Janie Caldwell of Houston Texas, only surviving sibling sister - Cora Gaither of Florida; daughters - Sonja Bohannon, Diadra Dodd (Roland Dodd), Pamela Phillips and Rudine Holmes of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Marion Folk-Cramer of Texas, Shawnta Folk-Withers and Tasha Wise (Rodney) of New Jersey; and sons - Tahmez D. Love and Malik Johnston of New Jersey. “Pop” had a total of 24 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and a host of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held for David “Dave” Caldwell at a later time.
