I first met Brendan in 1998 while doing my MPH. He taught us biostatistics and I remember what a passionate teacher he was. He so loved numbers and was brilliant with statistics. He said something very profound to me then, as the MPH degree was my first postgraduate at that time. His comment was on encouraging me to pursue many more degrees and be a lifelong learner, but at the same time ensuring I applied my learning in between. That comment of his made me pause after each of my subsequent post-graduate qualifications and ensured I spent several years applying my knowledge before starting a new qualification. Dear Brendan, rest in peace, thank you for inspiring each of us in your own unique way.
