This memorial page has been set up to honour the memory of Anne. Here we can share and collect memories of Anne and post our condolences in a place that is easily accessible to everyone. Anne was a devoted mother and grandmother, a kind and endlessly courageous woman. She was a generous and loyal soul who always had a compassionate ear, especially for the disadvantaged. She had a gift for seeing humanity in everyone and was a fierce protector of the vulnerable. She was an adventurer and independent thinker whose curiosity to explore, know and understand still burned strong in her 7th decade. She was important to so many more people than she realised, and her loss has been felt by many. The Mogensen family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who assisted with Anne’s missing persons case. We have been deeply touched by the care and support during this period when we have suffered the tragic loss of our mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. In particular we would like to thank the detectives and police men and women of the Lake Illawarra Police service who worked tirelessly and showed commendable discretion and respect during a difficult time. We are also grateful for all the gifts, flowers and sympathies received from friends and family, these have been very much appreciated and helped us to know we are not alone in facing the reality of this situation. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on 4th June at All Saints Catholic Church, Shellharbour City and a streamed service will be accessible online via the Parish Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/allsaintsshellharbourcity/. Anne found joy in vibrant colour and as such we would love to see invited family and friends dress in the full colours of the rainbow for her thanksgiving service.

Anne Mogensen I first met Anne in high school at Our Lady of Dolours, Chatswood in 1966. We shared many classes together and I also remember her having a natural flair for languages. She certainly helped me out on numerous occasions to get my head around German grammar. I also remember us often walking back to her home in Lane Cove from Chatswood down a well worn track beside the railway line, whiling away the time with nonstop chat. Another great memory was being allowed to go to the Easter show on our own at the Showground at Moore Park in Sydney. I’ll never forget the time we had drunk milkshakes and then got on the cup and saucer ride. That was a bad decision as it took us some time to recover. After high school we kept in touch through birthday, Christmas cards and telephone conversations. Anne attended my wedding but declined being my bridesmaid as she hated having her photo taken which I understood, but I wanted her to know I considered her for the task. We continued a really close friendship whilst she had her first two children, Timothy & Nicholas and remember having many regular, lengthy phone calls that often lasted at least 2 hours whilst we chatted about everything. As both our families grew and our children grew older it was hard keeping up which was now relegated to Christmas and birthday cards. We would occasionally catch up in the Christmas holidays whilst we holidayed on the south coast and the birthday and Christmas cards continued. Unfortunately as I am not a good letter writer but preferred just quick short messages, we drifted apart in the last few years as each of our lives became very full with our own pursuits. Anne had her own demons that she had to deal with but I always remembered Anne as a dear friend who was a very loving mother, who would do anything to encourage and nurture her children. She loved all animals and was very empathetic to all living things. May she Rest In Peace. Sherille Sullivan

My friendship with Anne began in 1969, over fifty years ago when I moved from Newcastle to Sydney and went to Our Lady of Dolours High School at Chatswood. Anne was unaware of what a clever student she was, particularly in the area of languages. She was a non-conformist and enjoyed the challenge. After finishing school we remained in touch, particularly when I lived in Bowral and Anne in Wollongong. We would visit each other, particularly when she had Timothy and Nicholas and I had Nicole and Monica. During this time Anne struggled because she became more aware that she was different. She found comfort in caring for animals and her children and in being very creative. I then moved to Penrith and we wrote and would see each other occassionally. Anne would send the most amazing creative gifts to my children - named tee shirts, craft dolls, name plates etc. This would give both of us great joy. From there I moved to Tweed Heads and so our communication was by letter writing and Christmas cards. That then became our regualar pattern of communicating and being pen-pals. Part of me became less whole with her passing. We were just really good soul-mates, different and yet companions on the journey of life. We are kindred spirits who cared for each other and for creation. The world has not ever known an Anne Mogensen and it never will again. I will miss her and feel for her grieving family and friends. May she be welcomed into the home prepared for her by our good and gracious God. My love always, Teresa Brierley (nee Moylan)
