Grateful to IHE Delft and Gordana Trifunovic for allowing people abroad to join today's beautiful memorial service for Nemanja Trifunovic. Trif, we connected just a month ago when you worried about Jana, your daughter, possibly being stranded due to her connecting flight from Dulles to Ithaca being caught in the blizzard. I gave you my number but reassured that you should trust her resourcefulness. You asked whether I had a 'cute guy around' and joked that Jana claims that 'smart girls have difficulties finding adequate boys' ️☺️ Thanks for all the laughs, the words of wisdom, and your friendship. We will miss you!
Prof Nemanja was soft spoken with substance. I learnt from him that you can be soft spoken yet communicate substance. All my deep knowledge and understanding of Water Transport and Distribution is squarely attributed to Prof and his education material. It is really difficult to express how I miss him. Chad Akita (2009 WSE)
Prof was one of the most welcoming person. He treated us like family as he love South African food and weather. He took us (Zanele, Happiness, Mpho) to a Greek restaurant, as they served meat that reminded him of South Africa. :). I recall this day as it was yesterday. Prof, you will be missed, and your contributions in the water sector made a great impact. Fezeka Sotywambe
Prof. Nemanja, the teacher and the friend. I am still digesting the shock of you leaving us. You have always been smiling, happy and calm. Not only you were a great lecturer, but also a true gentle man. You used to tell me " You are a very good man, but your only problem is you support Roger Federer". I will miss this debate. You were an idol to how I have become since I arrived to the Netherlands 7 years ago. I still remember you invited me to a share a local meal at Xmas time. We had a great time. You will be missed, but your corner in my heart remains forever. Thank you Dr. Nemanja, and rest in peace!
Dear Nemanja, It is with great sadness that I write these words. I will never forget all the many things you taught me during my PhD. I was always so proud to be your “first” PhD student (and last one ;)). I am very thankful for having had the opportunity of working 5 years with you. During those 5 years you were always so calm, and that is one of your characteristics that I always admired. I cannot recall not even one day seeing you sad, worried or stressed. You were always so peaceful and with such a nice vibe. You always had the right words to calm me in certain moments of dispair during my PhD. I am very grateful for everything that you taught me during those 5 years and I will always remember your trip to the Galápagos Islands: a very busy one, where we had to visit so many places in such short time. I will never forget how much you enjoyed the fresh tuna, and you literally said it was the best you ever had. Thank you for teaching me so much, not only regarding water supply, but about life, and above all, how to overcome difficult moments. I wish we could have visited each other a bit more often during the past years, we always said we would and time just passed by so fast. I remember clearly the last time we had coffee at your place and we talked about life. May your soul Rest In Peace. You leave a big legacy at IHE! (The picture was during the first months of my PhD and it was amazing to have such a waiter!)
Late Dr. Nemanja Trifunovic why have you left so early. Hmmmmmm. You were a Ghanaian and will always be a Ghanaian. He told me that he has been to Ghana on several occasions to teach at the KNUST, this he mentioned when I pay him a visit to his office. He has a mini flag of Ghana in his Office and he looks proud when he speak about Ghana. He is always happy to see me in his Office and Class as I am a Ghanaian. I was his student from 2002 - 2003. Not only as his student but also he was my mentor. He guided me throughout my programme in Delft and I will forever be grateful to him. My greatest memories I still do recollect was the period we were to defend our project work. He called me into his Office and informed me that Henry, I wish I will be around during you defends but rather unfortunately I will be out of town for an equally important assignment on the day of your defence, however I trust you can make it. This gave me the needed courage and strength to put up my best which I did. Although I arrived in Delft very late, through his mentorship I was able to make a 7.5. On behalf of my family and on my own behalf, I extend my family's sincere condolences to the wife, children, immediate family and the Institute for the lost of Dr. Trifunovic. May the heavens receive his soul and grant him a peaceful rest. Dr. Nemanja Trifunovic fare thee well.
