I knew Mark whilst he was Head of Assurance on the Victoria Line Upgrade programme (VLUP) between 2005 and 2009. He was a larger than life character - with a rather frightening dress sense at times. Coming from outside the rail industry into my role as Chief Engineer (a role that Mark later fulfilled following the commencement of passenger operations), I relied on his experience & confident manner - especially leading the Safety Panels. Mark was always positive and willing to be pragmatic and he made a significant contribution to the VLUP which was probably London Underground's most successful railway upgrade.
