Margarita was exactly who you would want for a next door neighbour. Interested in life around her, welcoming and entertaining. She was keen to create friendships with the houses around her. To that end she would often ask round people she hardly knew for drinks and what she would term nibbles, and I would call a large supper.
Although the wisteria on the front railings were a joy, we bonded over our dislike for Aianthus trees. One which caused the most ire had self seeded in a garden that bordered both our properties. We ran a campaign against the weed, with a certain amount of success, which cheered us both up.
She was stoic with her ailments, and an intrepid traveler. We would listen to tales of her adventures in awe at her daring. Her idea of a holiday did not coincide with ours. Margarita preferring rough terrain in a land rover to a week by a pool.
I have a very pretty wicker table on our roof garden, procured apparently from a local bridge club, and a reindeer skin unsuited to her decoration. She was generous and fun, and we will miss her.
