Dear MJ.
All I have is my many sweet memories of times with your mother in Madison, NJ (lots of parties!), lazy afternoons at your pool in the summer with her signature port and lemon, and later, visits to one another in New York and London, and twice, at my place on Fire Island. I also remember her devotion to your uncle whose situation kept him from a fully normal life, as well as her devotion to your grandmother (whom I remember so well). Like your mother, Sheila was a "class act."
Another amazing facet of your mother was her capacity to operate in very different worlds and to make a success of things, from running an ordinary delicatessen in New Jersey, to dealing in Vietnamese art, to being a London real estate developer. Earlier this week I had lunch at Drew University with six retired faculty members, five of whom knew your father (and mother). They mentioned with fondness what a force your mother was in the social life of that community long after your father's death.
I send my heartfelt condolences to you, Lauren, and your extended family.
