It is with deep sorrow yet with hearts full of gratitude that we remember the life of Mama Joyce Atieno Adera, fondly known as Councilor Nyaloka. Mama Joyce rested peacefully on Sunday, 21st September 2025, at Metropolitan Hospital, Buruburu, Nairobi, after a long and courageous battle with cervical cancer.
She was a beloved daughter of the late James Adera Gogo and the late Rebecca Atieno Awuor of Kamser Ngeta, Kendu Bay, Homabay County. A cherished sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mama Joyce touched many lives with her compassion, strength, and devotion to family and community.
She was a loving wife to the late Gordon Obure Ondik of Seme Kowe, Kisumu County and co-wife to Mama Rhoda Olonde. As a mother, she nurtured many – including Jerim, Franklin, Edwin, Sheikh, Collins, Jeconia, Elizabeth, Winny, Rose, Quinter, the late Lydia, the late Geoffrey and others – leaving behind a legacy of love, unity, audacity, courage and resilience. She was also a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, deeply treasured by Snider, Christine, Violet, Joe, Lek, Loye, Olivia, Blessings, Antony, Bianca, Gianna, and many more.
Her home was a sanctuary of kindness and generosity, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of family, friends, and the wider community she served.
As we celebrate her life, we honor her as a pillar of strength, a loving matriarch, and a true community leader.
Rest in Eternal Peace, Mama Joyce Atieno Adera Obure Nyaloka.
