Marielle Dubbeling

December 17, 1968 - October 23, 2019

On 23rd of October, Marielle Dubbeling passed away peacefully at her home in France, following a long battle with cancer. Her husband, Guido, was at her side. She is remembered by many people, all over the world, as a unique individual; a spiritual person of integrity and uncompromising values; an influential thinker; a supportive and stimulating colleague and tutor; a steadfast leader; and, above all, a friend. Marielle was a leading expert in urban agriculture and city region food systems, who had significant and long lasting impacts on urban policies, as well as on research and education in this field of work. Marielle was co-founder of the RUAF Foundation, of which she was the Director since 2012, and a driving force of the RUAF Global Partnership. She will continue to inspire the many people that have been involved in studies and projects in which she took part. Marielle, We miss your warmth, intellect and humane approach and making everybody around you comfortable and happy. I met her first when we travelled together to Polder museum. She drove the car adeptly navigating the route expecting me to assist her in the navigation. I was hopeless. She laughed heartily throughout the journey. I had several interactions with her as part of the RUAF programme in India in Bengaluru, where i coordinated it on behalf of AMEF. She was very clear, precise and warm always. That time, i met Guido who was a perfect match for her. So warm and affectionate. Also, i came to know about her spiritual preferences and keenness to visit Satya Sai Baba Ashram. I was deeply inspired and impressed with the combination of her interests and leanings - fierce professional commitment, warm unperturbed and friendly during interactions, spiritual leanings and a winsome smile which made everybody around her get energised. Miss You, Marielle. Wishing strength to equally wonderful person, Guido.
