Lawrence R. “Larry” Rowan, age 72, of Hastings passed away Tuesday September 13, 2017 at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN.
Larry was born August 10, 1945, in St. Paul to Walter and Catherine (Ryan) Rowan.
He grew up in Hastings and attended the Hastings schools. He worked many jobs , he started out working on a farm, then Armours meat processing in South St. Paul, he was the caretaker at Hastings mobile home terrace near the ice arena.He worked at McDonalds as a maintenance tech and then switched to Walmart and worked the nightshift in maintenence dept. for over 20 years.. Larry worked hard, but not when making friends. That came easy.. He was an avid hunter and he greatly enjoyed going to the casinos. He also enjoyed collecting coins. Some of his favorite movie stars were Clint Eastwood Charles Bronson and John Wayne. He enjoyed hearing music from Hank Williams Johnny Cash Jerry Reed and the Amos and Andy radio show.
Larry, aka" Lukey" nicknamed after his grandpa Luke. often told his sons many stories about growing up in 1950s Cow town.
He told stories about his gang dressing up as a candy inspectors and tasting all their favorite candies.
He mentioned another time when they raided a local watermelon field. Larry missed alot of school and did alot of fishiing. Larry kept the name of his gang members a secret. He did mention some fast driving around town in a 1949 ford todor and another time with a friend years later in a GTO. Larry did spend some time in Red Wing in his early years for his bad boy ways.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Tina, 1 sister Shirley Ringeisen, 3 brothers James, Richard and William.
Larry married Joanne (Richter) December 24, 1990 in Hastings.
He is survived by his 2nd wife, Joanne; children , Ken (Brittany Nappin) Heath, and Missy (Sean) McMurray;
grandchildren Jason and Avery
Larrys' first wife was Marlene Meier, children, Robert (Fiance Lisa Pilot) Rowan, Elvis Rowan, Justin (Angie) Rowan, Sandy Rowan ,grandchildren ,Cody, Amanda, and Caleb;
his sister Donna Janssen, sister-in-law Dorothy Rowan; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and hundreds of wonderful friends.
