It was very sad to hear of Bernardo's death. He was a good colleague and a valuable member of the topoisomerase community. He was always keen to chat at meetings and seemed to be one of the few people who really understood replication intermediates - an area that many of us find complicated. I will be very sorry not to see him again at future topoisomerase gatherings. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Miguel Vicente

I am so sorry to hear this tragic news. Jorge was a very dedicated and thorough scientist and his papers high-water marks in the DNA-topology field. His data were always impeccable and the papers a joy to read. Although I did not know him personally, we spoke a few times at meetings. My impressions were that he was gentle, unassuming, and without affect. The community will miss his wonderful contributions.
