John Mills was an inspiration, a fighter and a real hero to many of us. He was never prepared to accept second best for his community and he worked tirelessly to campaign for better treatments, earlier diagnosis and improvements in the co-ordination of care. I very much valued his wisdom and insight. John was kind, always thoughtful, but never afraid to speak his mind in the pursuit of justice and fairness. As a member of the Board of the Rare Auto-Immune Rheumatic Disease Alliance, which he helped establish, I was privileged to work closely with him. He recognised that it was only by working together, that we would really gain any traction for these rare diseases. John will be missed by so many of us. My thoughts are with Susan, their family and the wider Vasculitis community.
