Jim Gillies

June 25, 1969 - November 13, 2021

Our friend and colleague, Jim Gillies, passed away at home on Saturday the 13th of November after a long battle with cancer. Jim has been part of SLC for over 16 years working in many teams including FE, DSA, BCF and, for the last 6 years, the Assess Platform. Jim has had a huge influence in all the teams he's worked in, but more importantly he has left a positive lasting impression on so many people he worked with. His loss will be felt much more widely than the Assess Platform and he will be missed by many within SLC. Jim is survived by his wife Aileen and daughter Emma and our thoughts go out to them at this time.

Jim and I worked in the Assess Platform (formally known as BCF) for many years. We both came into the office early and would chat about our weekends. I always remember Jim chatting about Alieen and Emma with great warmth and affection. Jim would always be mindful of work situations when things were going wrong, or colleagues were getting a bit irate. He would always ask how you were and make one of his crazy jokes… Always made me laugh, he had your back in the office. One of the last chats I had with Jim, he was going to be able to see Emma start high school. I know this made him so happy. My thoughts go out to Alieen and Emma and the rest of Jim’s family at this very sad time. Jim will be missed by all.
